With a history that stretches back to the Victorian era, the Chelsea boot's enduring popularity still remains unchallenged today. In 1837, Queen Victoria's boot maker, Mr J Sparkes-Hall created a pair of ankle-height boots with elastic inserts on each side to ensure they pull on and off easily.
They became popular for horse riding, and it wasn't until the 1960s that the boots took their name - 'Chelsea' boots. Popularised by the swinging sixties, the Beatles and London's vibrant youth scene, the boots became known as Chelsea boots after the fashionable area frequented by the suited and newly- booted mods. Today, Chelsea boots are an everyman footwear staple, perfect for any occasion.
