How to Care For Your Shoes
Keep them looking fresh out the box or hammer them and show that your shoes can handle the miles – no matter how you wear your D+D’s, looking after them properly will keep them doing what they’ve been made to do: be worn, and be comfy.
General Care
Leather is a natural product and will always change over time, developing characteristics that are specific to you and how you wear them. Clean and polish your leather D+D’s regularly, let them dry naturally if they get wet (always avoid direct heat), and make sure you store them properly.
Prevent
First thing’s first, use a protective spray on your footwear when you take them out of the box for the first time. This forms a barrier, keeping them from taking anything on that can damage the leather – and will help to repel wet weather.
For our Printed Penny Loafers, they are a piece of wearable art, so, treat them as such. Never, and we repeat, never use strong products, chemicals or alcoholic solvents on our printed pairs - it doesn’t end well.
Clean
Brush your shoes down thoroughly using a shoe brush – avoid anything with stiff bristles to avoid scratching or scuffing the leather.
Follow it up with a leather cream, applied with a clean cloth. Work it into the creases and give them good coverage, without over saturating. This will help extend the life of the leather and prevent it from going stiff or suffering at natural stress points you create when walking.
Sneaker Soles
You can find plenty of products that help to keep your sneaker soles white – but if you regularly wipe them down, you’ll keep them looking as they should. If you’ve got some dirt stuck in an awkward spot, grab an old toothbrush, and give them a good scrub.
Storage
Always store your D+D’s away from direct sunlight. When you’re not wearing them, make sure they’re dry, and keep them in the dust bag they’re delivered with. Stash them in a dark spot that’s around room temperature and invest in shoe trees to keep them in shape when they’re not on foot.
General Care
Suede is a natural product and will change for the better over time as it begins to characterise how you’ve worn it. The key to keeping your suede shoes looking their best is to ensure they’re regularly cleaned and covered with a protective spray to make maintaining them easy.
Prevent
First thing’s first, use a protective spray on your footwear when you take them out of the box for the first time. It forms a barrier, keeping them from taking anything on that can damage the suede, and makes sure that future cleaning is quick and easy.
Clean
Brush your shoes down thoroughly using a suede specific brush – they’re specially built to make sure that they don’t damage or change the appearance of suede.
A suede eraser can help with spot cleaning water or oil marks. Simply apply a bit of pressure on the affected area and watch it disappear.
Once you’re done, make sure you reapply a protective spray to keep that barrier up.
