Revisiting Casa D+D
Marrakech is rife with street performers, an abundance of them - around every corner we found ourselves in the wake of talented individuals and groups showcasing their talents for all to see.
In case you’re not familiar with Gnawa music, it’s a style of religious song and dance that combines traditional melodies and rhythmic patterns with ritual poetry, creating well-preserved, heritage-laden melodies.
We were fortunate enough to experience a private show whilst staying in Old Town Marrakech, perched hypnotically as the authentic Gnawa group performed with the Hunt Driving Loafers on-foot - each song rising steadily from delicate sintir strings to loud vocals and iron krakeb taps before spinning their shashiya.
