Get To Know The Lennon Derby

It’s been 11 months since we started on the Lennon Derby.

11 months of CADs, casting, wear testing… rounds and rounds of sampling to get to where we are today.

When we first set out, we knew we wanted an all-rounder. A daily, one you can wear whenever, wherever. A shoe that’ll only get better with age, with every scuff, scratch and stain.

That’s when we landed on the derby, a favourite of the late 1800s. It was exactly what we wanted, a classic silhouette we could make our mark on and update for the here and now.

We started at the base. We decided on a 3cm rubber lugged sole with a 0.5cm welt, to give the shoe a chunkier profile and add some durability.

Then, the shape – we chose a rounded silhouette with a raised profile, to look clean with whatever you’re wearing, be it shorts, sweats or loose-cut jeans.

Once we’d sorted the silhouette, we had to nail the fabrics. We selected three different materials for the uppers, including black crust leather, brown cracked leather and cow-print pony hair to give each style its own personality.

To make them our own, we’ve added woven cotton laces, custom-debossed metal eyelets, screen-printed cushioned in-socks and hand-stitched Plus Stars at the heels. A stainless steel Plus Star has been added to the side of the sole, placed just beneath the trouser line to give a real clean profile, whatever the outfit.

Introducing your newest daily – the Lennon Derby.
